Moonak a nagar panchayat city forms an important part of Sangrur district in Punjab. It is largely famous as the religious city due to the presence of temples and gurudwaras. History of Moonak

Moonak was originally known as Akalgarh. At this place, there is an old fort called as 'Qila Mubarak', which is believed to be established during the Muslim period. Furthermore, its history is also related with Emperor Maharaja Ranjit Singh who ruled Punjab. During the time of Maharaja, his uncle oversaw the administration but cheated Maharaja Ranjit Singh under the pressure of the British. This led to attack on Moonak saving it from its transfer to Britishers.The historical background of Moonak makes it popular among the people of Punjab. The region was earlier part of Princely state of Patiala along with a Tehsil Head Quarter with two civil and criminal courts of Naib Nazim, under District Sunam that had the court of Nazim. In the year 1929, the courts of Naib Nazim at Moonak were eliminated and inhibited. The city of Moonak is located at the latitude of 29.8196 °North and the longitude of 75.8866 °East. It has typically a dry climate condition with very less rainfall. The summer season starts here from the end of March till the month of June. During this season, the temperature can reaches more than 40 °C with hot and dry winds. The summer season is followed by the monsoon which prevails from July to September. The month of August has the maximum rainfall in Moonak city. Moreover, the start of December brings the winter season at this region that remains until February. January is the coldest month of the year when the temperature usually goes down to 8 °C. Thus, the perfect time to travel around this city is between the months of October and November.
